Making House Guests Feel at Home

Making House Guests Feel at Home

With fall already upon us, there is no time like the present to start preparing for holiday guests. It may seem overwhelming at first, but offering your guests a comfy, cozy, and beautiful place to rest is key to hosting a fun and easy holiday.

The Guestroom

A well-appointed guestroom can make you the hostess-with-the-mostest by offering guests a beautiful retreat when everyone needs a little space.

High-quality clean sheets are a must. Our best-selling cotton percale sheets are classic and just the right weight. Bamboo sheets are a great alternative if you know your guests like a silky-soft sheet.

No one likes waking up with a kink in their neck! Full and fluffy pillows can make all the difference. We recommend our down-alternative pillows for a cozy and affordable guest-room solution.

Layers, layers, layers! Who doesn’t love a layered bed? Our absolute favorite layered bed is cotton percale sheets, our award-winning Granny blanket, a down or down-alternative comforter, a percale duvet cover, and a herringbone throw tossed across the bottom. Perfection! Layers are the key to ensuring your guests are never too hot or too cold.

When choosing a comforter, it’s best to think about where you live. In Maine with a foot of snow on the ground? Hungarian down is the best choice. If you’re enjoying a holiday by the ocean, our cool sleeping down alternative blanket offers guests the same comfy, cozy feeling without the heat.

Don’t forget the little finishing touches, too; an alarm clock, water, and snacks beside the bed, and toss a few current magazines on the nightstand.

The Bathroom

You don’t want your guests using dingy or stained towels, so consider sprucing up your bath linens too. It’s always a good idea to have a few extra necessities on hand for guests to borrow; shampoo, a spare toothbrush, and body wash.

The Couch

Dinner is made, your guests are stuffed, now it’s time for a nap. We all know a great blanket or throw makes the difference between waking up cranky and a refreshing nap.

A cotton throw is perfect for an elevated everyday blanket. It’s machine washable, snuggly, and great for year-round use.

Don’t forget; you set the tone! If you want your guests to kick off their shoes, and put their feet up on the couch, show them how it’s done. If you’re hosting a more formal affair, guests will follow your lead.

The Porch

Don’t forget about your outdoor space. Time outside gives your guests (and you!) an opportunity for some alone time and to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Our Granny Blankets and throws are soft and cozy. They’re machine washable and incredibly durable, making them a great choice for kids, firepits, or with your morning cup of coffee in a rocking chair.

If you’re fortunate enough to live at the beach, take a look at those beach towels. Are they still bright and vibrant after the summer? We’re guessing not!

Making sure you’re ready for guests this holiday season is easy with a little bit of preparation. Preparing the guest room, bath, couch, and porch can all be done two weeks in advance, leaving you plenty of time to cook and converse with your guests.
