Creating a Hotel Bed at Home

Sleeping in a five-star hotel is one of life’s great pleasures. You feel spoiled by the decadence of that crisp, comfy, luxurious bed, and you wake feeling refreshed and rested. Well, just because you had to check out doesn’t mean you have to wait until your next vacation to experience that level of sleeping luxury! You can create your own five-star bed at home with just a few simple tips.

Take the Room to the Next Level

Luxurious sleeping starts with the bedroom. Consider reducing clutter and adding some natural elements to the room, like fresh flowers, filtering curtains to highlight natural sunlight or soft fragrances.

If your mattress has hit that seven-to-ten-year window, it might be time to start thinking about a replacement. The lifespan of a mattress depends on several things, including the type of mattress, the way it’s maintained, and the amount of time that it has been used. (A guest bed is likely to be less used than the mattress in the master bedroom, for example.) Be sure to purchase the best quality mattress that you can afford; it will be worth it in the long run.

Down mattress pad

If your mattress doesn’t need to be replaced, make sure it’s clean and in good condition. Then, add a fluffy down-filled mattress pad for a soft, comfortable level of decadence that will rival the best hotel beds.

Premium Bedding

The finest hotels opt for the best bedding, and that means percale sheets. Percale provides the softest, most comfortable sheet that money can buy. Not only does percale stand up to frequent washings at hotels from hotel use, but percale is a natural, breathable, and durable weave that actually gets softer with each laundering. Just imagine how well it can work in your own home!  Thomas Lee Sheets are produced from the finest 100% cotton percale, are easy to care for, and will last longer than most sheets manufactured with synthetic fibers.

You might also notice that those hotel beds always use white linens. The bright white gives the feeling of crispness, cleanliness, and newness. It’s not only calming and uncluttered, but it’s also easy to accessorize. It also doesn’t hurt that you feel like you’re sleeping in a welcoming cloud.

Layers

No hotel bed would be complete without layers. In addition to your percale sheets, you can layer your bed with a percale duvet cover. Soft next to your skin, with the duvet inside, it’s the perfect mix of fluffy and lightweight. (And since you probably don’t have that five-star maid service available, it’s also nice to know that your duvet cover is easy to care for at home.)

And of course, a five-star hotel bed can’t be considered five-star without pillows, and a lot of them. Layer pillows in different sizes by propping them up against the headboard. We love the Hungarian Goose Down pillows for their optimal softness. Choose a pillowcase or sham to match your bedding, and add accent pillows to bring in some color and texture.

Pillows on bed

Like a subtle hint of color? Try a Herringbone throw placed strategically across the bottom of the bed. You’ll be amazed how quickly this little touch warms up the crisp, hotel-white aesthetic while adding to the luxurious feel of your bed.

Cleaning

Laundering your bedding once a week should be sufficient. Even better? Washing percale sheets and bedding is easy, even without the daily maid service. Make your bed and fluff your pillows each morning to guarantee that your ideal sleep haven will be waiting for you at night.
