For the many benefits of cotton percale sheets, the one pitfall is that they tend to wrinkle. While wrinkles do not affect the feel or durability of the sheets, if they are something you cannot embrace, here are some tips to keep your percale sheets looking as smooth as they feel. You know how when you do a full load of laundry, sleeves and pants legs tangle together? It happens with sheets, too. Fitted sheets tend to get tangled up with other items in the washer, and this can cause wrinkles. Washing sheets separately can alleviate this issue. You can also use half as much detergent as you normally would. Build-up from detergents can cause fabrics to be prone to wrinkling.
Move sheets promptly from the washer to the dryer to prevent wrinkles from setting into the fabric. Before placing the sheets into the dryer, give them a quick shake. This will loosen any tangles. It can also prevent the sheets and pillowcases from folding inside each other or inside the fitted sheet while in the dryer and, therefore, not getting as dry as they need to be before putting them away.
If your dryer has a perma-press setting, drying your percale sheets can be the perfect time to try it out. Perma-press, or permanent press, is a setting that uses medium heat and utilizes a cool-down period before or after warmer air. This setting is gentler on fabrics and can prevent creases from setting in.
Fold or Put on Bed Right Away
Once the sheets are clean and dry, you may want to fold them or put them on the bed immediately. This way, they do not get crumpled up in the dryer after sitting for hours. You can also enjoy the sheets quicker that way!
